How to configure NetSupport School to connect only to required Students

Summary


When starting the NetSupport School/Inform Tutor it connects to all Students not just the ones for the lesson, other Tutors are then unable to connect to there Students as they are already connected to a Tutor


Details

There are five different ways to configure NetSupport School/Inform so that when the Tutor is run it will only connect to the Students that you require for that lesson, not all of these may be possible depending on your network configuration.

Using “Connect to Room”

Note: The Connect to Room feature is only available from NetSupport School version 10.50 or above.

Configure the NetSupport School/Inform Tutor
1. Open the NetSupport School Tutor. Navigate to the Tutors Configurator using the {School} drop down menu and then selecting {Configurations}
2. On the {Student Selection} tab tick the option "Connect to Students in Room(s):”
3. Enter your Room Name in the field provided
4. Click OK

Configure the NetSupport Student 
1. Open the NetSupport School Configurator by using {Start}{Programs}{NetSupport School/Inform}{NetSupport School/Inform Configurator}
2. Select the {Room} tab
3. Select one of the following options depending on your environment:

Using a Known List of Students
Configure the NetSupport School/Inform Tutor
1. Open the NetSupport School Tutor. Navigate to the Tutors Configurator using the {School} drop down menu and then selecting {Configurations}
2. On the {Student Selection} tab tick the option "Connect to Known list of Students"
3. Select {OK}
4. You will get a message stating that there are no machines defined. Do you want to add some now? Please select {Yes}
5. Select the {Browse} option.
6. Once the Students are returned then manually add the required Students into the right hand pane.
7. Select {Done} and then you will start connecting to your known list of students

Using the option "Browse and Connect to Students starting with ..."
Configure the NetSupport School/Inform Tutor
1. Open the NetSupport School Tutor. Navigate to the Tutors Configurator using the {School} drop down menu and then selecting {Configurations}
2. On the {Student Selection} tab tick in the option "Browse and Connect to Students starting with ......"
3. Where the blank field is please enter the first few letters of the Student machine names e.g. Class1 (This will return all Students where the machine name starts with Class1)

Using the option "Publish Class and allow Students to join"
Configure the NetSupport School/Inform Tutor
1. Open the NetSupport School Tutor. Navigate to the Tutors Configurator using the {School} drop down menu and then selecting {Configurations}
2. On the {Student Selection } tab tick in the option "Publish Class and allow Students to Join"
3. Create your Class Name. e.g. Maths
4. Edit the Description of the lesson
5. Select {OK}

Students can join the Published class
1. Students can Right Click on the NetSupport Client icon in the System tray and select {Join a Class}

Using TCPIP Port Numbers
Configure the NetSupport School/Inform Tutor
1. Open the NetSupport School Tutor. Navigate to the Tutors Configurator using the {School} drop down menu and then select {Configurations}
2. Select the {Network Settings} tab
3. Change the port number to another four or Five digit number (take care not to use a port in use by other software on your network)

Configure the NetSupport Student 
1. Open the NetSupport School/Inform Configurator by using {Start}{Programs}{NetSupport School/Inform}{NetSupport School/Inform Configurator}
2. The first tab is the {Network Settings} tab and this is where you need to set the four to five digit port number (Please ensure that this is the same as the Tutors port number).
